LOOKING FORWARD: Chicago Shows We're Excited About
Continuing our support of productions that embrace inclusion for artists and audiences, below are shows that you can buy tickets to THIS WEEK that we feel are moving our community in the right direction. Let your wallet do the talking. Buy tickets to shows that celebrate inclusion on our stages. Then write to producers and tell them you want to see more of it. Decision makers are led by numbers and this is one way we can all make a difference.
ABLE (Artists Breaking Limits and Expectations) in partnership with Chicago Children's Theatre
presents What You Will -- Original scenes devised and performed by the A.B.L.E. ensemble ONE PERFORMANCE ONLY! Saturday, Dec. 12th at 3pm Začek McVay Theater
Throughout a structured 10-week rehearsal process, the A.B.L.E. ensemble, comprised of 19 young actors with Down syndrome, has been looking at the elements of storytelling – character, relationships, setting, objectives – and working together to devise their own scenes around the central theme of identity. You’ll get to meet this diverse cast and hear in their own words what matters to them, and see tales that venture from home to school to the desert and beyond with characters ranging from the everyday Moms and Doctors to fantastical Wizards, Queens, and Werewolves. Join the ensemble for an afternoon of scenes, monologues, music (and lots of dancing!) as we tell four stories as unique as the performers who created them.
Artists Breaking Limits & Expectations (A.B.L.E.), in partnership with Chicago Children’s Theatre provides artistic experiences through which individuals with special needs feel accepted and empowered to discover their own unique voices, and develop the confidence and skills to share who they are and what they are truly ABLE to do!
